Margarito as with all Mexicans is very, very durable. He's a punching machine with the level permanently set on high.
He overwhelms opponents with an extremely high work rate and precision punching. In his last defence against the very tough Argentinean Sebastian Lujan, Margarito scored a KO win after his volume punching ended up, literally carving up the poor South American.
The fight, which was broadcast on ESPN2, showed a gruesome spectacle. Part of Lujan's ear was sliced off the side of his head. 'That was the worst ring injury I've ever seen. It looked really bad. Lujan had taken enough punishment and I'm glad they stopped it,' said Margarito after the fight.
The key to tonight's fight is Margarito's chin. He will survive Cintron's early onslaughts and take his opponent into deeper waters where the less experienced challenger will drown.
Cintron seems to have a bright future in this division but his two best wins have come against men who have fallen short every time they've dipped their toes in world class waters. He has been out of the ring since July last year due to an injury, so also has to contend with being ring-rusty too.
Margarito on the other hand was undefeated since 1996 and had walked over a series of credible welterweights opponents before 'unluckily' dropping a technical decision against the unpredictable but underrated Daniel Santos.
