Although ranked 21 places below his opponent 33 year-old Delaney, a furniture upholsterer by trade, is actually in pretty decent nick of late.

He beat world number 79 Alex Borg 5-2 in his most recent match. He also Liang Wenbo 10-5 in the first round of World Championship Qualifying, which he followed up by beating Chris Norbury 10-6, eventually being beaten 10-8 in the 3rd round by Stuart Pettman.

Ford in contrast is in dire form. His most recent encounter saw him beaten for a second time in a few months by Dave Harold 10-8. He did beat David McDonnell 10-3 in the previous round but this was only the 3rd competitive match he has won all season.

His ranking position is not what it appears. He stands in 46th due to his exploits in last years China Open & Malta Cup.

These tournaments are not worth the paper they are written on, so the form is best ignored.

In which case this match really is toss of the coin stuff, so a small wager on the far more experienced Delaney is most certainly the call of the day.

Another match you may want to watch out for is Hamilton based Jamie Burnett who should dispose of world number 83 Liang Wenbo with the minimum of fuss. The Scotsman has had an average season by his standards but is a true class above this type of opponent. Expect him to tonk him !!
